Candid and data privacy

When we say we understand our customers' concern surrounding data security and privacy, we truly mean it. You're putting your trust in us and we take that seriously. For sellers, this means only requesting the minimum permissions needed to manage your products and inventory when setting up your store's catalog in Candid. For buyers, this means only requesting enough information needed to confirm your role as a retailer.


The permissions we have are:

  • Sync products from your ecommerce store to Candid
  • See product info
  • See locations (such as for shipping)
  • See inventory
  • Update inventory

Our customers information is secure and we will never, under any circumstances, be selling off any of your data. At Candid we only take the small amount of data we do collect and give it a roof to live under for wholesale operations only.

How we process your information

We ask for this level of access in order to:

  • Copy over product information, saving time and accuracy from double-entry of data
  • Keep inventory levels synced (optional)
  • Provide you with sell-through reporting

However, this level of integration isn't required to use Candid. You can always choose to do "manual updating" by (1) formatting an export of your catalog into the Squarespace CSV format, and then (2) choosing "CSV upload" from the integrations page and following the directions there. While this totally works, here's why this isn't our first choice for recommendation:

  • Converting a CSV to the Squarespace format takes time and can be very tricky to get right
  • You have to re-upload a CSV every time you need to add products or make changes
  • No inventory sync
  • No sell-through reporting

How does Candid store inventory and account info?

All payment info is stored via our processing partner, Stripe.com. Shopify sync happens via their secure API. Everything else is hosted on our secure Amazon cloud server, which is backed up hourly and secured and encrypted in ways we are happy to describe further if you want to talk tech.

What about credit cards?

We have partnered with Stripe to provide our customers with a safe and fast way to process credit card payments. Accepting payments through Candid is also entirely optional if you prefer to use your own separate method. Just keep in mind this means you will need to manually update invoices if they are paid outside of Candid. We picked Stripe to help us provide this service to our customers because they are reliable and have extremely high security protocols. You can read more about Stripes privacy policy here.
